The Walnut Club is honored to participate once again in the Annual Sojourner Truth Walk: Celebrating Girls' & Women’s LeadershipThis is an amazing opportunity to honor the women and girls we admire.

We invite you to join The Walnut Club team and help us raise money to support Philly girls and families.

This year's event will be hosted virtually on Saturday, May 2, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING LOGISTICS FOR THIS EVENT:

This will be a fun and lively event! We encourage you to make a sign for The Walnut Club, listing who inspires you, and hold it up for all to see on the video call. (Take a photo, post it to social media, and tag #SoJoWalk2020 and @thewalnutclub too!) And feel free to turn your microphone on and give a cheer when they call out The Walnut Club team name!

At this year's event, they will be recognizing frontline workers - healthcare providers, grocery store workers, and others. The Walnut Club will be recognizing our member, Christina Fleck, a registered nurse with Einstein Medical Center, and her team for their incredible dedication during the coronavirus. I'm attaching Christina's photo. Feel free to print it out and hold it up during the virtual event to celebrate our WOW! (And check out Christina's profile in today's Member Spotlight newsletter!)

For the event dial-in information, members can check our private Facebook page for details or email marketing@walnutclub.org. Please also note a few additional fun logistical details from the Sojourner Truth team...

-Please wear a camp t-shirt if you have one (purple camp t-shirt or walk t-shirt from a previous year), or just any purple shirt will do. (Also, it doesn’t matter what you wear, you are welcome!)

-Please have paper, one marker, and scissors with you if possible. (It’s okay if not!)

-During this call we will ask people to stay muted unless your team is called to shout, or unless you have been called on by the host to share something.

-The event will consist of some gallery view and some screen share time. We encourage you to private message people you know and say hi!

-There will be some parts of the event when you are encouraged to get up and follow along with a goofy camp song, or follow along with some chants. We would love for you to participate and have fun, but it’s also fine for you to just watch!

-No judgment for the cheese factor! We are a camp after all, and this is our first virtual walk. There may or may not be beads strung around a computer screen at some point…

Funds raised through this event are used to provide scholarships for girls to go to Camp Sojourner, GirlsLeadershipCamp.org, a nonprofit program for Philadelphia girls that focuses on team-building, leadership development, creative arts, and appreciation of nature.

Camp Sojourner's mission is to help girls become leaders, who take charge of their own lives and also act as agents of positive change in their communities. We embrace this mission because The Walnut Club is also dedicated to promoting the advancement of women and celebrating their achievements. We believe in the power of “women helping women,” as we champion each other to grow into our highest potential.

It costs $1,200 for one girl to attend this week-long overnight summer camp. Not every family can afford tuition so Camp Sojourner charges families on a sliding scale and they pay what they can afford. With your support, some families will pay almost nothing.

This fundraiser will also help support year-round leadership activities, including online programming efforts, which are free for girls and families.

We know this is a difficult time for a lot of people, and we hope you will consider supporting our team with fundraising efforts to champion this special opportunity for Philly girls.

Even if you are unable to help fundraise or make a donation at this time, we hope you will still join us virtually on May 2nd.

This event is open to all. Questions about this event can be sent to marketing@walnutclub.org.

Here’s how to participate in the Sojourner Truth Virtual Walk:

1) Click HERE to register for the event on our walk website. Registration costs $25/person. There is also a free registration option. You have to be registered in order to receive the Zoom information for the event on May 2.

2) Join The Walnut Club team to help us raise money to support Philly girls and families during this time.

3)
Join the live Zoom event on May 2, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The virtual walk will include a roll call of teams, then a screening of compilation video made from what you submitted.

We will send you the Zoom link a few days before the event.

OPTIONAL:
a) Record a short video (15-30 seconds max) telling us your name, who you are walking in honor of, and why. You can have a picture of the person in your hand during the video (as you may have put on a sign at an in-person walk.) Send your video to this link by April 24.

This year, the walk will honor frontline workers—healthcare providers, grocery store workers, and others. These brave people are working hard to help us all during this pandemic, often at risk to their own health, some without feeling they have a choice. Who do you want to appreciate right now?

b) Post a picture of the frontline worker you are walking in honor of to your own social media, and use hashtag #SojoWalk2020. We will re-post on our social media.
